2019 Port Angeles Pro GRT #2

Hi all,

This past weekend I attended stop number 2 on the Pro GRT calendar. This race was held in Port Angeles Washington.  I went into this race with the mindset that I was going to take everything I learned from last year's season, and apply it in the most constructive way possible to segway myself into a successful season. I had just built up my new bike a few days before leaving. So, I had not had the most time to get used to it, so I was taking it slow in practice and just getting a feel for the track. Going into my seeding run, I knew that I needed to try my best to stay composed, calm, and collected, for my first time against the clock all year. Doing this provided me with an opportunity to use this chance to get a feeling for how the track would ride, and the bike would perform when genuinely put to the test in a race environment. Ultimately doing these things would mean that there would be no surprises for race run and that I would be set up the best for success. I dropped into my seeding run and did exactly as I planned. I was calm, collected, and precise, and I put myself in an excellent position for the time race run came around. On race day, I got to the track in the morning not feeling the most confident, but I went into practice in the morning with an open mind and surprised myself with how well I was riding. I knew that I could put confidence in the fact I had been riding well that morning, and it took a bit of the stress and nervousness out of the picture for race run. By the time I got up for my race run, I knew what I had to do, to achieve success. When I got into the start gate and did my pre-race routine, I had no nerves and was prepared to lay it all out there. When I set out of the gate, I immediately made a small line choice mistake due to pedaling too hard out of the gate, but I quickly reeled my speed back to a controllable rate and found my flow. I ended up having a reasonably conservative race run, but I was still satisfied with my efforts as it was only my first race of the season.

My next event is the Pemberton Enduro!
